Well, well, here we are at the very beginning of the ESN Jyväskylä blog! It's an exciting time: summer's in the air here in Finland, everything is blooming and feels new. The city's buzzing with the strong summer heat and nearly nightless nights, cyclists are in the streets and riding around the lakes now more than ever, people are eating ice cream nonstop, and days spent on the shores of Jyväskylä's lakes seem endless.
With the beginning of summer, this fresh start, it also seemed appropriate to start a blog for ESN Jyväskylä. We hope it'll be a place for both us ESNers and you, dear exchange student, to gather and share stories, comments, and what's on our minds. We want to show you what makes being an exchange student here in Jyväskylä so great, why we ourselves (we being your ESN Jyväskylä board members) love it here so much, and why we love sharing it with our international friends.
We'll introduce you to the people who make ESN Jyväskylä possible, ask some former exchange students to share a little something about their own experiences in Jyväskylä, show you around Jyväskylä (if only virtually), give you practical advice, tell you what's going on in Jyväskylä and when, write about Finnish culture, and so much more. We can't wait to take you along for the ride.
All of this sounds pretty good already, right? But what if we told you it gets even better? What if we told you that while all of ESN Jyväskylä's parties and events are great, there's something even greater about ESN Jyväskylä? Intrigued? Thought so.
So, you ask, what is the best thing about ESN Jyväskylä, then? The best thing about ESN Jyväskylä is without a doubt the ESN Jyväskylä family. The idea that we're all one big, international family that takes care of each other, no matter where in the world we come from. Making you, dear exchange student, feel welcome to Jyväskylä, making you feel like you belong here with us, that's what it's all about. It warms our hearts and makes us feel all gushy, and we love that feeling.
We love ESN Jyväskylä, and we hope that if you haven't already joined our family, you will soon. We cannot wait to welcome you into it. In the meantime, we'll get to blogging.
